NEWARK, Del. - - A collective offensive outburst propelled the Wilmington University volleyball team to a quick 3-0 victory over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe Felician on Saturday to kick start the 2013 Homecoming festivities at the WU Athletics Complex.

Set scores for the match were 25-10, 25-21, and 25-9.

The Wildcats (9-7, 4-0 CACC) picked up 43 kills with only eight kills for the match, hitting a season high .389 as a team for the match. Felician (2-7, 2-3 CACC) already upset Dominican earlier in the season and was coming off a 3-1 victory over Concordia, but fell flat on Saturday.

Senior middle Katie Shorter led the Wildcat attack while not committing a single error on the afternoon, knocking down nine kills on 12 swings for a team high .750 attack percentage. Sophomore Alex Siolos hit .500 for the match with nine kills as well while freshman Allison Briley hit .471 with tying the game high of nine kills.

Brittany Biddle hit .600 without an error, collecting six kills on the afternoon while also leading the defensive effort at the net with a solo block and two block assists in the three sets. Kaitlin DiGiacinto also collected six kills while also tying a team high with nine digs.

Kasey Couch orchestrated the offense on Saturday, passing out 21 assists while also tying DiGiacinto with a team high nine digs in the sweep. Siolos added 10 assists for the Wildcats.

The second set was the closest game of the match, as the Wildcats were finally able to take the lead for good at 22-21. The Wildcats never trailed by more than two late in the set, battling back every time the Golden Falcons attempted to pull away. After scoring five of six points, Felician was able to move ahead 16-14.

But the Wildcats fought back with six of the next even points overall to grab a 20-17 lead, capped by the solo block by Biddle. Felician came back with three straight kills to tie the set at 20-20, and once again at 21-21 with a kill by Tonia Ford.

Wilmington used kills by DiGiacinto, Biddle, Briley, and an attack error by Felician to run out the set, 25-21.

The Wildcats hit .333 in the opening set, collected a game high 16 kills in the second set but hit only .286, and closed out the match by hitting .667 in the third and final frame.

Wilmington remains at home for one more match, when they welcome CACC South Division rival Philadelphia to the WU Athletics Complex on Tuesday. For the match, the Wildcats will be raising money for Breast Cancer Awareness, as well as wearing pink jerseys. The match is set to start at 7 p.m.
