Bistany, Jones, and Hawkins All Earn CACC Weekly Honors for Wilmington University

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Crossover season has been a busy yet successful time for the Wildcats and three Wilmington University student-athletes were named Players of the Week for the respective sports in the Weekly Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Reports released Monday.

Volleyball's Erin Bistany was named the sport's final CACC Defensive Player of the Week while women's basketball's Zameria Jones was named the sport's first CACC Player of the Week. Women's basketball's Jordan Hawkins was also named the CACC Rookie of the Week.

Bistany (Greenbelt, Md.) was a force at the net in the team's two matches, picking up two solo blocks and 12 block assists in the team's 1-1 week. The week started with 13 kills, a .321 attack percentage, a solo block, and six block assists at Millersville in the final nonconference match of the year. The sophomore then added six kills, a solo block, and six block assists against Goldey-Beacom in the regular season finale. She ranks fifth in the CACC in averaging 1.01 blocks per set on the year.

Jones (Joppa, Md.) led the women's basketball team to a 2-0 week, averaging 20.5 points per game, shooting 53.6 percent from the field. She is also third in the CACC in passing out nine assists in the two games. She came off the bench to score 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting in the season opening win against Mercy on Friday. She also came off the bench to score 25 points on 8-of-17 shooting against Molloy, scoring four of the team's seven points in overtime. Jones also went 9-of-12 from the free throw line against the Golden Lions. The junior grabbed eight rebounds and passed out four assists against Molloy after dishing out five assists against Mercy.

Hawkins (Glen Burnie, Md.) scored 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting against Molloy on Saturday, grabbing nine rebounds as well. She started her first collegiate career game on Friday against Mercy, grabbing seven rebounds, five offensively, while picking up two blocks as well. The freshman also added a block and two steals against Molloy on Saturday.

Men's basketball's Tyaire Ponzo-Meek and Paul Medlin were also mentioned on the Weekly Reports, earning a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll after leading the team to a 1-1 start to the season.
