Playoff Preview: Wilmington Volleyball Makes Return Trip to CACC Tournament Semifinals

The Wilmington University volleyball team has reached the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament for the sixth year in a row this season, making an appearance in the CACC Tournament Semifinals for the fifth year in a row as it squares off against Post on Friday at Georgian Court.

The South Division's number two seeded Wildcats will face the North Division's top seeded Eagles in the first semifinal in the Wellness Center starting at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.

The team's met earlier this season in Waterbury, Conn., with the Wildcats coming out on top, 3-1. Set scores for the match were 25-19, 19-25, 25-12, and 25-12.

Junior Allison Briley led the Wildcats' offense with 15 kills and 13 digs while Alex Siolos collected 14 kills and seven digs. Kaitlin DiGiacinto poured in nine kills and a team high 15 digs while Miranda Shaw dished out 31 assists.

The Wildcats out blocked the Eagles, 7-5, in the match while also outhitting the Eagles, .310-.194. Post committed 24 errors on 144 attempts while the Wildcats only committed 11 errors on 126 attempts.

Scouting the South's No. 2 Wilmington University Wildcats:

The Wildcats needed to overcome a 2-1 deficit to Caldwell on Tuesday in the CACC Tournament Quarterfinals to advance to the CACC Tournament Semifinals for the fifth year in a row. The Wildcats have only advanced past the semifinals once in that span however, making a CACC Tournament Championship match appearance in 2012.

Allison Briley led the Wildcats on Tuesday with her second 20-20 performance of the season, collecting 21 kills and 20 digs in the match. Alex Siolos put down 16 kills and added 14 digs and three service aces while Erin Bistany chipped in with 12 kills, four block assists, and a solo block. Shelby Henderson collected 33 digs while Miranda Shaw passed out a season's best 55 assist.

All five of the players mentioned above were voted All-CACC this season, as Bistany, Briley, and Shaw were named All-CACC Second Team while Henderson and Siolos earned a spot on the All-CACC Third Team.

As a team, Wilmington leads the CACC in gathering 19.36 digs per set on the season, nearly two more digs per set than any other team. The Wildcats are also tops in the CACC with 268 total blocks, ranking second in the league with 2.27 blocks per set.

Scouting the North's No. 1 Post University Eagles:

The Eagles breezed past Holy Family in the CACC Tournament Quarterfinals at home on Tuesday, defeating them in straight sets by scores of 25-20, 25-14, and 25-21. Kristine Ripson and Hailey Griffin led the Eagles with nine kills each while Griffin added 10 digs for a double-double. Skylar German put down seven kills and added nine digs while Morgan Griffin and Nicole Brown added six kills each.

The Eagles' Skylar German was named the CACC Player of the Year for the second year in a row for her work in the regular season while freshman setter Miranda Root was named the CACC Rookie of the Year. German and Root was also named All-CACC First Team for their efforts. Post also had Hailey Griffin named All-CACC Third Team this season.

The match is going to be offense against defense, as Post leads the CACC in almost all offensive categories. The Eagles are first in kills per set (12.69), hitting percentage (.208), assists per set (11.63), and points per set (16.4).
