Wilmington Harriers Continues Impressive CACC Weekly Awards Run

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - After another impressive week on the course, sophomore Althea Davidson and freshman Jesus Amezquita raced their way to another Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor for the Wilmington University cross country teams, announced by the conference office on Thursday.

Davidson captured her unprecedented fifth consecutive CACC Women's Runner of the Week award while Amezquita has captured his fourth CACC Men's Rookie of the Week, and second straight, for the 2012 season.

Davidson (New Castle, Del./William Penn) won her third medalist honors of the season, having never finished worse than fifth place overall. The media design major beat the field at the Goldey-Beacom Fall Classis last Friday evening by over a minute, winning the race in 19:14. Davidson was off her season's best mark on the 5k course, but beat teammate Jeanette Halliburton and the field by 1:02, helping the women's team finish in a season's best third place.

Amezquita (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) picked up his second straight CACC Men's Rookie of the Week award and fourth overall, finishing fifth overall at the Goldey-Beacom Fall Classic. His time of 29:10 on the 8k course helped propel the men to their third straight meet championship as he was the third Wildcat to cross the finish line.

Graduate student Mike O'Brian earned CACC Honorable Mention this week in leading the men to their third straight meet title. He finished second overall, leading the Wildcats with a time of 28:46.

The win helped the men retain their seventh place ranking in the latest USTFCCCA East Region poll, as they sit above Felician and Philadelphia in seventh.

The Wildcats have this weekend off before challenging for the CACC Championship on October 21. The championship meet will be held at the Belmont Plateau in Fairmont Park in Philadelphia. The women will take off starting at 10:30 followed by the men's gun at 11:15 a.m.
