NEWARK, Del. - - For the second consecutive week Wilmington University cross country sophomore Althea Davidson has been recognized as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Runner of the Week, announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Squaring off against four teams ranked in the NCAA Division II East Regional rankings, Davidson registered a fifth-place showing at the RiverHawks Invitational with a time of 19:03 at the Mines Falls Park 5k course in Nashua, N.H.
Running on the course which will feature the NCAA Division II East Regional meet later this year, Davidson held a 6:09 mile time and was only eight seconds off from second place, 14 seconds off the medalists' pace.
The sophomore continues to impress in her second season, finishing second overall at the Delaware Valley College Invite and winning the 12th Annual WUXC Invite before her fifth place finish this weekend.
Goldey-Beacom's Felicia Justice was named the CACC Women's Rookie of the Week while Felician's Rob Albano earned the CACC Runner of the Week and Post's Justin Flucker earned CACC Rookie of the Week on the men's side.
In other cross country news, the Wilmington University men's team moved into the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II Regional Rankings for week one. The only school not to be ranked in the preseason East Region rankings, Wilmington moved into the 10th spot, joining Felician as the only two CACC schools in the rankings.
UMass Lowell continues to lead the East Region poll, as the Northeast-10 conference holds the top six positions in the rankings. Stonehill, Bentley, and American International remain in contention behind UMass Lowell, while the only other mix in the week one poll was the changing of Adelphi and Southern Connecticut. Adelphi moves up one spot to fifth while Southern Connecticut drops to sixth.
Felician is behind the Northeast-10 schools in seventh followed by a pair of East Coast Conference schools in LIU Post in eighth and Molloy in ninth. Wilmington rounds out the East Region at No. 10.
A few of the UMass-Lowell squads were also mentions in the preseason National Poll, led by UMass-Lowell in 11th. Stonehill settled in at No. 25 followed by Bentley (32) and American International (33). The first week of the National Poll is set to come out on Wednesday.
