Althea Davidson Honored as CACC Student-Athlete of the Month for October

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Wilmington women's cross country sophomore standout Althea Davidson (New Castle, Del.) has been named as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Student-Athlete of the Month for October, which was announced today by Conference Commissioner Dan Mara.

Davidson, a native of New Castle, Del., has excelled athletically and in the classroom during her first two years at Wilmington and has also become a leader among her peers in the community.

The sophomore won the 2012 CACC Women's Cross Country Championship during the month of October, beating the field by 1:04 and became the first Lady Wildcat to break under the 19 minute barrier on Belmont Plateau. She then went on to place fifth overall at the 2012 NCAA Division II East Regional, earning a bid to NCAA Nationals, which marked a first for a Wilmington University runner.

In addition, Davidson was a five-time CACC Runner of the Week in 2012 and was recognized as the CACC Runner of the Year.  As a freshman, Davidson posted a fifth-place showing at the CACC Championships.

During the regular season meet schedule in 2012, Davidson posted wins at the WUXC Invitational, the 33rd Annual Philadelphia Metropolitan, and the Goldey-Beacom Fall Classic while placing second overall at the Delaware Valley College Invite and Don Cathcart Invite.

Davidson is a chef in the U.S. Army and is currently helping coordinate the Delaware National Guard "War on Hunger", which will be run through the holiday season.  The effort includes accepting nonperishable food donations for the local community as well as for troops who are coming home for the holidays.  The group has also recently begun collecting donations for those affected by Hurricane Sandy as well.

In the classroom, Davidson boasts a 3.87 grade point average while majoring in Media Design.  She was previously honored as a Wilmington University Academic All-Star last spring.

The CACC Student-Athlete of the Month is awarded from September through May to select student-athletes who excel in athletics, the classroom and the community.
