Wilmington Spring Athletes Well Represented in CACC Weekly Report with Baseball, Golf, and Women’s Lacrosse Earning Honors

The Wilmington University spring student-athletes were once again dominate in this week’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Reports as the Wildcats had Players and Rookies of the Week in baseball, golf and women’s lacrosse.

Golf swept the honors as Andreas Lunding was named the CACC Player of the Week and Joey Russo was named the CACC Rookie of the Week; baseball’s Sam Goines was named the CACC Player of the Week; and women’s lacrosse’s La’Dae Boykin was named the CACC Rookie of the Week on Monday when the conference office released the weekly reports.

Lunding (Horsholm, Denmark) earned medalist honors at the GBC Spring Invite with a 71 (-1), finishing as the lone sub-par score of the round to beat the field by two strokes and lead the Wildcats to a team title. Lunding then came back and finished as the top Division II golfer at the Spring Griffin Invite on Tuesday, finishing second overall with a 72 (+2), one stroke off the leader, but again leading the team to an overall title.

Russo (Sewell, N.J.) also helped the Wildcats’ golf team to a pair of team titles last week, starting the week in a tie for seventh overall at the GBC Spring Invite, shooting a 77 (+5). Russo then came back and finished in a tie for fourth overall at the Spring Griffin Invite on Tuesday, shooting a 75 (+5), four strokes off the leader.

Goines (Wilmington, Del.) led the offensive attack on the baseball diamond as the Wildcats went a perfect 5-0 last week, outscoring their opponents 50-5 in the five games. The senior batted .529 (9-for-17), along with a .619 on-base percentage and a .941 slugging percentage. Five of his nine hits went for extra bases, including two double and a triple in game one against Caldwell, and a double and a triple in game two against Nyack. He batted 5-for-8 with seven RBI and a run scored in the sweep of Caldwell before hitting 4-for-6 with five RBI and three runs scored in the sweep of Nyack.

Boykin (Edgewood, Md.) helped lead the Wildcats to a 2-1 week last week, 2-0 inside the CACC for the women’s lacrosse team. The freshman was second on the team with 10 points in the three games, scoring seven goals while adding three assists. She scored three goals and added an assist against Chestnut Hill before leading the team with four goals and two assists in a win at Post on Saturday. She also picked up three ground balls against Chestnut Hill and caused one turnover.

The Wildcats also had three members named on their respective Week 5 Honor Rolls, as baseball’s Jamie Treml, softball’s Kelsey Doherty, and women’s lacrosse Rebekah McCurry were all in the running for being named Players of the Week in their sport.
