Three Wildcats Earn First Team All-CACC Accolades for Women’s Lacrosse

Three Wilmington University women’s lacrosse student-athletes were named First Team All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference in a vote of the leagues nine head coaches, as announced by the conference commissioner on Monday afternoon.

Seniors Rebekah McCurry (St. Leonard, Md.) and Corinne Dries (Bear, Del.), as well as junior Sara LeBrun (Bel Air, Md.) were named to the First Team, leading up the team’s CACC Tournament Quarterfinal match on Tuesday.

The three have led the Wildcats to a 6-10 overall record while earning the No. 4 seed in the CACC Tournament with a 5-3 conference record. The Wildcats won three of their last four CACC games at the end of the season to earn a home game in the CACC Quarterfinal round.

McCurry led the Wildcats with 66 points, scoring 31 goals and adding 35 assists. Her 66 points are fourth in the CACC after the regular season while her 35 assists are second in the CACC. Her 35 assists are also a new single season record for the Wildcats. McCurry is a do-it-all player for the Wildcats, topping the CACC with 70 ground balls this year, topping the CACC with 53 caused turnovers, and finishing second with 76 draw controls.

The senior set program single game records with 13 draw controls at Tampa, nine ground balls at Dominican, and tied the single game record with seven caused turnovers in games against East Stroudsburg and at Dominican. She also became the fifth Wildcat to score 100 career goals this year, reaching the mark at Philadelphia. She was also named a CACC Co-Player of the Week on April 13.

Dries played every minute in goal for the Wildcats this season, amassing 158 saves, a .419 save percentage, and a 13.60 goals against average on the year. She ranked fourth in the CACC in saves, and eighth in the CACC in both save percentage and GAA.

The senior recorded a season high 17 saves at Dowling while also producing double-digit saves in 10 games this year. She stopped 14 shots at Caldwell and 14 more at East Stroudsburg as well. She was named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week on March 2.

LeBrun led the Wildcats with 47 goals in her first season as a Wildcat, adding three assists for a team second best 50 points. She leads the CACC with 101 shots on the year, putting 78.2 percent of them on goal. Her 47 goals is third in the CACC while she is eighth in points.

The junior set a single game program record with eight goals at Tampa, needing only 10 shots to score eight goals. She also added six goals at Dominican while scoring five goals at Caldwell. LeBrun has tallied nine hat tricks on the year.

Georgian Court’s Melissa Williams was named the CACC Player of the Year after leading the conference with 87 points, scoring 51 goals and adding 36 assists. Philadelphia’s Katie Parent was named the CACC Defensive Player of the Year while Chestnut Hill’s Hunter Leckonby was named the CACC Rookie of the Year.

Holy Family’s head coach Monica Quinn was named the BSN Sports/CACC Coach of the Year after leading the Tigers to the CACC Regular Season Championship and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming tournament. Nyack college earned the CACC Team Sportsmanship Award.
