Repeat Honorees Sam Goines and Chelsea Botsch Named on this Week’s CACC Weekly Reports

Success on the diamond have been a common assessment so far this spring for both the Wilmington University baseball and softball teams as shown by repeat honorees on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Report released earlier this week.

Baseball’s Sam Goines (Wilmington, Del./A.I. DuPont) was named the CACC Player of the Week for the third time this season, continuing a stretch of Wildcats named CACC Player of the Week for to the sixth consecutive report. Softball’s Chelsea Botsch (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) was named the CACC Softball Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season.

Goines helped the baseball team to a 1-1 record last week, batting 7-for-8 with a home run, four RBI, and six runs scored in two games. Botsch has continued her amazing stretch in the circle for the softball team, going 3-0 with three complete game shutouts, extending her streak to six consecutive shutout performances. Her week started with a near perfect game, as she only allowed one walk in a five-inning no-hitter, striking out six batters at USciences. She then came back and tossed another five-inning complete game shutout against East Regionally ranked No. 2 Adelphi, striking out two while only allowing five hits. The senior’s week ended against another tough opponent, tossing a full complete game shutout in a 1-0 win over East Regionally ranked No. 1 Caldwell on Senior Day. She struck out six while only allowing three hits and two walks in the win.

Goines has been named CACC Player of the Week on March 16 and March 30 this season while Botsch claimed the CACC Pitcher of the Week award on March 9.
