Kutztown Smacks Three Homers in 14-2 Win over Baseball

NEW CASTLE, Del. - - In the final nonconference matchup of the season, Kutztown mashed 15 hits, including three homers, to defeat the Wilmington University baseball team, 14-2, in seven innings on Wednesday at Wilson Field.

The Golden Bears (15-27) scored in six consecutive innings after the Wildcats (23-18) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. They scored single runs in the second and third innings to tie the game and then scored six in the fourth, two in the fifth, three in the sixth, and one more in the seventh.

Xavier Cortez hit a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the second, scoring Brandon Grygo and Tyler Pirrung to give the Wildcats a quick 2-0 lead.

The Golden Bears tied the game with an RBI ground out in the second and a sacrifice fly in the third, but then broke it open in the fourth. An error started the inning and then a two-out walk extended the frame. Leadoff hitter Jason Wolff then launched a three-run homer to give the Golden Bears the lead. The visitors then restarted the inning with a single and two walks, scoring three more times in the frame to take an 8-2 lead.

Jason Wolff hit another two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning and then capped his day with an RBI single to cap a three-run sixth and take a 13-2 lead. Ethan Martini hit the team's third homer of the day, a solo shot to lead off the top of the seventh.

Brandon Grygo, Kory Pritchard, and Xavier Cortez all had two hits in the game for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats now prep for their regular season finale against Goldey-Beacom on Saturday. The doubleheader is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. at Wilson Field.
