For the first time in program history the Wilmington University softball team earned an at-large berth into the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament, earning the fifth seed and begins its trek through the NCAA’s on Friday.

The room where the Wildcats (33-16) were watching the NCAA Selection Show was full of nervous tension, not knowing whether or not their name was going to be called. The team didn’t have to wait long as the show went through the East Region, being called as the fifth seed and playing at Adelphi in the first round.

Fourth seeded Adelphi will host one of the two East Region brackets, with the two winners of each four-team bracket squaring off in the Super Regionals next week.

The Wildcats also share a half of the bracket with top seeded and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe Caldwell, and eighth seeded Pace. Caldwell and Pace will play in the first game on Friday at 1:30 p.m., followed by the Panthers and Wildcats at 4 p.m.
