Brian August Earns ABCA/Diamond East Region Coach of the Year Award

GREENSBORO, N.C. - - Adding to the accolades from the 2015 Wilmington University baseball season, head coach Brian August has been named the 2015 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Diamond East Region Coach of the Year earlier this week.

August led his team to the NCAA Division II National Finals, capturing the programs first ever NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament Championship in May. The Wildcats went 37-15 overall in 2015, including an 18-2 mark in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. August and the Wildcats earned the CACC Regular Season title, the CACC Tournament Championship, and the East Regional Tournament Championship in 2015.

It is only the third time in Wilmington University’s history that their peers have named a coach the East Region Coach of the Year, and August becomes the second coach to win the award as a Wildcat. Men’s golf’s Harry Jennings has won the award twice, including this spring as well. All records only include the Wildcats’ tenure in the NCAA ranks, starting with the fall of 2004.

August and the Wildcats reached the NCAA Division II Baseball National Finals for the first time after entering their seventh NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament. The Wildcats won the first two games of the Regional before falling and having to win two games on the final day to claim the championship.

The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 6,600 members represent all 50 states and 23 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include eight divisions: NCAA Division I, II, and III, NAIA, Junior College (NJCAA and Pacific Association Division), High School, and Youth.
