McLaughlin and Siolos Lead Group of Wildcats on First CACC Weekly Report

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Following a rampant start to the 2015 Wilmington University athletics schedule this past weekend, a number of student-athletes were mentioned on the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Report, announced today by the conference office.

The Wildcats were headlined by cross country’s Kevin McLaughlin who was named Men’s Runner of the Week and volleyball’s Alex Siolos who was named Co-Player of the Week.

McLaughlin raced to individual medalist honors in the season opening meet on Saturday morning. The senior, who last ran for the Wildcats in 2008, finished the 8K WUXC Invite in 28:57.16, over 32 seconds faster than the second place finisher. He helped the Wildcats to a first place team finish as well.

Siolos (East Moriches, N.Y./Westhampton Beach) paced the Wildcats to a 2-2 record to open the 2015 season, competing in the Shippensburg University Tournament. The Wildcats defeated Davis & Elkins and Kutztown, but fell to Adelphi and Shippesnburg. Siolos led the team in averaging 3.27 kills per set, 61 points, and averaging 4.1 points per set. She had a weekend’s high of 18 kills and 12 digs against Kutztown. Siolos also collected another double-double with 15 kills and 24 assists against Adelphi.

Volleyball’s Shelby Henderson and Miranda Shaw, cross country’s Johnathan Avila, and men’s soccer’s Lance Berry also represented the Wildcats on the Weekly Report, earning a spot on the Honor Roll in each respective sport.
