Wilmington Trio Named to 2007 Daktronics Baseball All-Northeast Region Team 

NEW CASTLE, DE -- Wilmington College is pleased to announce that baseball standouts, Jason Rust (Woodbridge HS/Greenwood, DE), Joe Matterer (Newark HS/Newark, DE), and Brian Testa (St. Elizabeth's HS/Wilmington, DE) were named to the Daktronics All-Northeast Region team for their performances this past season. Rust and Matterer earned first team honors, while Testa was awarded second team accolades.  The All-Region teams were chosen by the head coaches and sports information directors in the Northeast Region, which includes teams in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), the East Coast Conference, and the Northeast 10 Conference.

Rust, a senior outfielder who led the Wildcats in almost every offensive category, finished the year hitting .369 with 47 runs scored and 62 RBIs.  A first-team All-CACC selection, he led the conference in home runs (21), RBIs, slugging percentage (.815), was second in total bases (137), and finished third in runs scored and hits (62). 

Matterer, a junior right-handed pitcher, led the CACC in wins, as he went 12-1 with a 3.12 ERA.  He notched three complete games, including two shutouts, while being named first-team All-CACC.  Matterer's opponents hit only .254 off him, and he walked only 18 in 69.1 innings pitched.  He was

Testa, a junior utility player, saw time this season at first base, third base, and in the outfield.  He hit .318, scored 43 runs, tallied 45 RBIs, and recorded 85 total bases.  Testa, a first team All-Conference selection, led the Wildcats in doubles (14), and was second in home runs (7), walks (19), and on-base percentage (.424).

The Wildcats, CACC Tournament Champions finished the regular season with a 10-6 record in the CACC, and currently have an overall record of 29-18.  Wilmington College is the number six seed in the upcoming NCAA Division II Regional Tournament, and take on the number one seed and host Ravens of Franklin Pierce College on Thursday morning at 11:00 AM.
