NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - New to Division II, new to wood bats, and new to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, Wilmington University junior Josh Hampton came out swinging in his first week of action for the baseball team, earning him the CACC Player of the Week award, announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

After a successful two years at Cecil College, the junior transfer needed to make an immediate impact for the Wildcats, starting every game this season as the team's three or four-hole hitter. Through his first eight games (weekly honors for games through Southern New Hampshire), Hampton hit .394 with a team high 13 hits, seven RBI's, six runs, five doubles, two triples and the lone home run of the year so far for the Wildcats.

In five games against nationally ranked opponents, Hampton batted 10-for-21, collecting at least one hit in every game. He hit five doubles and two triples, totaling seven of his 10 hits as extra base hits against No. 7 Franklin Pierce and No. 15 Southern New Hampshire. He added four RBI's, scored five runs, and slugged .905 in leading the team to a 4-1 record against those two teams.

Including last night's lost at Barry, Hampton is hitting .368 on the year, going 14-for-38 with nine RBI's, six runs, five doubles, two triples and a home run. He currently has a seven game hitting intact, going 1-for-5 with a pair of runs batted in against Barry.

Felician's Matthew Facendo was named the CACC Pitcher of the Week going 2-0 in 9.2 innings of work while gathering a 0.93 earned run average and holding hitters to a .156 batting average for the week.

University of the Sciences freshman C.J. Hertz picked up the season's first CACC Rookie of the Week award for throwing a complete game against Queens. He needed 109 pitches while striking out seven for the win, allowing only one unearned run in the game.

USciences Dan McMahon and Nyack's John Kennedy and Cole Tobin rounded out the CACC Report by being named to the CACC Honorable Mention list.

The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday night when they travel to Nova Southeastern for another night game. The first pitch tonight will be thrown at 6 p.m.
