Four Wilmington Baseball Players Add Daktronics All-East Region Honors

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - - Four Wilmington University baseball team members were named as the 2014 Daktronics Baseball All-East Region Teams were announced, with three members being named First Team.

In a vote among the East Region's sports information directors, Matt Lopes, Jamie Treml, and Frank Samluk earned First Team honors while Tyler Fries was named Second Team.

Through the first game of the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament, a game in which the Wildcats won, 4-0, Lopes (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) continues to lead the team and the CACC with a .389 batting average. After going 2-for-4 last night, Lopes now has eight doubles and 18 RBI, while also throwing out nine would-be base stealers on the season. It is the first time Lopes has been named Daktronics All-Region.

Samluk (Middletown, Del.) earns his second straight First Team recognition for Daktronics after playing the infield, outfield, and pitching his way into the utility spot. The junior is hitting .349 after last night, collecting six doubles with 16 RBI, and scoring 26 more runs for the Wildcats. On the mound, he is 6-0 in 11 appearances, earning a 1.77 earned run average with 10 starts on the season. He has struck out a team high 56 batters in 56 innings.

Treml (Newark, Del.) returns to All-Region recognition after missing the most of last year due to an injury. It is the first time of his career being honored on a Daktronics All-East Region Team but earned ABCA honors in 2012. He tossed seven shutouts innings in a win over St. Thomas Aquinas to open the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament last night, lowering his earned run average to 0.96 to go along with a perfect 9-0 record. In 47 innings pitched, the junior has 58 strikeouts and only 16 walks.

Fries (Kennett Square, Pa.) earns his second ever All-Region honor as a junior after leading the CACC with eight saves, picking up two in the CACC Tournament. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning to close the door on the Wildcats' first win of the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament Thursday night, picking up one strikeout. He has now appeared in 24 games, throwing 24.2 innings while picking up 34 strikeouts with only five walks. He is 5-0 with a 1.09 earned run average and has been a part of six shutouts.

Felician College's Aaron Brill was voted as the East Region's Player of the Year leading his Golden Falcons to their first ever Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship and appearance in the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament.

Dowling College's Tyler Badamo was voted as the East Region's Pitcher of the Year after leading his Golden Lions to the fifth seed in the Regional Tournament after striking out 111 batters during the year and eight more in a 3-0 win over Franklin Pierce in the first round on Thursday.
