Women’s Lacrosse Wins Program Record Sixth Straight with 20-6 Victory at Feilcian

RUTHERFORD, N.J. - - The Wilmington University women's lacrosse team scored 12 goals in the first quarter on its way to a 20-6 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory on the road at Felician on Saturday at Tryon Field.

The win was the sixth consecutive win for the Wildcats (11-2, 5-0 CACC), setting a new program record. They surpassed the 2006 and 2019 teams that had five-game winning streaks during their seasons.

The Wildcats started by scoring the first four goals of the game, using four different goal scorers. Anastasia Giannoulis, Amelie Gamache, Makenzie Stritzinger, and Ella Royer all scored to give the Wildcats a 4-0 lead with 11:17 to play in the first. Felician got on the board, but then the Wildcats rattled off a 6-0 run to open a 10-1 lead. With 1:29 to play. Giannoulis scored on a free position shot with 30 seconds left and then Amelie Gamache won the ensuing draw and Alea Javorowsky converted with 11 seconds left to make it 12-2 after the first.

Michaella Cook and Skylee Adams got into the boxscore with goals in the second quarter and then Ella Royer tacked on two more at the end of the quarter, giving the Wildcats a 17-3 lead at the halftime break.

Maddy Bassoff scored in the third quarter and Lauren Gresham became the ninth different goal scorer for the Wildcats with a goal in the fourth frame.

Alea Javorowsky led the Wildcats with eight points, scoring one goal while adding seven assists. Ella Royer poured in six goals while Makenzie Stritzinger scoffed four goals and added an assist. Anastasia Giannoulis scored three times while Amelie Gamache scored two goals to go with an assist. Taylor Culver led the defense with a pair of caused turnovers and two ground balls. Katie Vindigni made one save for the victory.

The Wildcats remain on the road for one more game, as they head to Georgian Court on Tuesday for a key CACC matchup. The opening draw is set for 3:00 p.m. in Lakewood, New Jersey.
