NEWARK, Del. - - Picking up the crucial RBI or earning that strikeout to get out of a sticky situation meant even more this year for the Wilmington University baseball team, as it joined the Muscle Movement Foundation to Strikeout Muscle Disease and help Muscle Champion Eddie Hazeldine.

Signed to a Letter of Participation for the 2016 season, Hazeldine joined the team in the dugout during select home games and provided strength and support throughout the season. The Wildcat team responded and gifted Eddie with a donation of just under $2,500 at their annual team banquet at the end of the season.

The funds raised will assist with essential physical accommodations in the Hazeldine home. The Wildcat student-athletes asked for pledges for each RBI or strikeout they contributed to the team throughout the season. As a team, the Wildcats collected 155 RBI as a lineup and 306 strikeouts as a pitching staff.

Eddie joined the team on March 3 with a special signing day through the Muscle Movement Foundation and the organizations founder and president Rob DeMasi. Eddie is a 13-year old survivor who is refusing to lose to duchenne muscular dystrophy, a genetic form of muscular dystrophy.
