BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - - The hits kept on coming for the Wilmington University softball team as it took a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games from Bloomfield, 14-6 and 7-0, to extend its winning streak to eight straight on Saturday afternoon at Clark Pond.

Wilmington (20-14, 7-3 CACC) remained red hot over its last 10 games, receiving 23 hits in game one and 10 hits in game two, enabling the team to jump up to fifth in the CACC standings with the two victories. Bloomfield (10-13, 2-8 CACC) fell for the third straight time and are now 2-6 in its last eight games overall.

The Wildcat offense started in the second inning, recording two hits but left the bases loaded without tallying a run. After starter Chelsea Botsch shut down the Deacon offense in the bottom of the second, the offense finally got on the board in a big way, scoring four runs on six hits to take the lead for good. They responded with four more in the fourth and capped the scoring with a six run sixth to put the game out of reach.

Christin Headley got the scoring started, blasting her first home run of the season with one out in the top of the third. After Ash hit a one out single, Headley followed with the homer to left center. Jillian Stafford started the inning back up with a single and with two outs and runners at the corners, Rachel Painter made it 3-0 with an RBI single. Shelby Thompson extended the inning with an infield single to third, scoring Brooke Berger for the final run of the inning.

Ash got the rally going once again in the fourth inning with a dingle through the left side. Two batters later, Stafford doubled down the left field line for an RBI, before Skye Boris make it 6-0 with an RBI single to right field. Now with two outs, Painter doubled to left center for another RBI, bringing a close to the four run fourth inning.

Another big inning sank the Deacons, as the Wildcats poured in six runs in the six, started with a Boris leadoff homer to right center. Thompson added an RBI single to right, followed by another RBI single by Ashley Witte. Ash knocked in another run with a sacrifice fly before Stafford knocked in a run with a single back to the pitcher. Boris made it a 2-for-2 inning with an RBI single to left field, capping the scoring and giving the Wildcats a 14-2 lead.

With the big lead, Botsch shut down the Deacons for most of the way, allowing six late runs but still improving to 7-6 on the year. The sophomore struck out five batters while allowing seven hits and two walks.

Senior Katie Warrington led the Wildcats from inside the circle in game two, striking out 11 batters to help the visitors earn the conference sweep.

Warrington received the only run support she would need in the top of the first inning, getting an RBI single to right field from Boris, scoring Ash from second. The pitcher only allowed two hits through the first four innings before the Wildcats offense struck again with another big inning.

With two outs and a runner on first, Headley and Stafford hit back-to-back doubles to score two more runs before Boris capped her productive play at the play with a two run bomb to center fielder to push the lead out to 6-0.

Warrington allowed the first two runners in the bottom of the fifth on base, but worked out of the jam by striking out the next three batters to keep the Deacons off the scoreboard and move closer to the sweep.

The Wildcats added a security run in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Cambria Ziemba before allowing Warrington to round out the sweep from in the circle.

Warrington moved to 11-2 on the year, making it three straight games with double digit strikeouts, her ninth such performance on the season. She walked three and allowed four hits, but worked out of every jam in the afternoon.

Boris led the offense on Saturday by going a combined 6-for-9 with six RBI's and two runs scored, hitting a pair of home runs on the day. Ash went 4-for-4 in game one before hitting 1-for-3 with two runs scored in game two. Stafford was the third Wildcat to collect four hits in the first game, going 40for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. She finished he afternoon with a 1-for-4 performance in game two with an RBI and a run scored.

The Wildcats will look to continue the team's winning streak on Monday, playing in a rescheduled doubleheader against Caldwell College. The Cougars currently sit atop the CACC standings with a 12-0 record, going 23-4 overall this season. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Asbury Field.
