Three Wilmington Softball Student-Athletes Earn Second Team All-CACC

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Three members of the Wilmington University softball team were named today as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference released its 2014 All-Conference Teams, voted on by the league's head coaches and announced by commissioner Dan Mara.

Seniors Meghan Logullo and Stephanie Sarris, along with sophomore Ashley Bennett, were all named Second Team All-CACC today after leading the Wildcats to a No. 5 seed in the upcoming CACC Tournament.

Bennett (Laurel, Del./Delmar) was named the Second Team designated player after batting .301 with a team high six home runs and 24 RBI during the regular season. Her six home runs rank sixth in the CACC, with blasts coming against Philadelphia, Nyack, Georgian Court, Holy Family, USciences, and Dowling.

Logullo (Middletown, Del./Middletown) was named a Second Team outfielder, anchoring the Wildcat defense by playing all 48 games in center this season. She batted .283 with four doubles, a triple, 22 RBI, and 17 runs scored. She also finished with five outfield assists and carries a five game hitting streak into the tournament.

Sarris (Rohnert Park, Calif./Rancho Cotate) led the pitching staff with 21 starts, appearing in 23 games. She is third in the CACC with 12 wins, completing in CACC best 14 games. She has three complete game shutouts this season, with the last coming on Senior Day on Saturday against Bloomfield. Her 106 strikeouts rank second in the CACC, as she compiled a season high nine on three separate occasions. Her 2.28 earned run average is fifth in the CACC while tossing 126.0 innings on the year.

Bloomfield's senior shortstop Angie Yoshizu was named the CACC Player of the Year after batting .388 from atop the Deacon lineup this season. Teammate Kirsten Wilson was named the CACC Rookie of the Year after hitting .358 with six home runs and striking out a league high 161 batters in the circle.

Caldwell's sophomore Amber Padilla was voted as the CACC Pitcher of the Year after posting a 14-3 season with a league low 1.70 earned run average in 115.0 innings.

Post's head coach Tracey Garofalo was named the CACC Coach of the Year in a voted of the conference's sports information directors after leading the Eagles to a third place finish and an 18-8 CACC record during the regular season.

The CACC Tournament is set to begin on Thursday, May 1 with a double elimination type format. The tournament will be held in Lakewood, N.J., hosted by Georgian Court University with two fields on campus. The Wildcats are set to face No. 4 Holy Family in the first game at a time to be determined.
