NEWARK, Del. - - While sitting on pins and needles, the Wilmington University softball team waited to hear their name called as the NCAA Division II Softball Selection Show rolled on. It turned out they didn't need to wait long, as they quickly found out they advanced to the Regional Tournament as the No. 8 Seed. They will head to host and No. 1 Adelphi for the first round.

It is the fourth consecutive year the Wildcats (34-19) earned a berth in the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament, but only the second time they needed an at-large bid since they didn't win the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament.

As the East Region brackets started to unveil, the Wildcats were the second team called out, ending any suspense as the rest of the eight-team field filled out. Fourth seeded New Haven will play fifth seeded Mercy to complete the East 1 bracket.

Second seeded Molloy will host the East 2 bracket, as they take on No. 7 NYIT. Third seeded and CACC Tournament champions Caldwell will play No. 6 Merrimack in the final pairing for the East Region. The two mini-bracket winners will square off in a best-of-three super regional next weekend.

The Wildcats and Panthers will get underway on Thursday, May 11 at 12:00 p.m. on the campus of Adelphi in Garden City, New York.

More information will be provided prior to the start of the tournament on Thursday.
