NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University softball team is ranked 20th in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll as the team continues its season-opening trip through the Sunshine State.
Through games ending March 3, the Wildcats are 4-5, dropping from last week's ranking of No. 11. After last night's split at Florida Tech, the Wildcats are now 5-6 overall with two more doubleheaders left in Florida.
The two opponents the Wildcats have remaining this week are also ranked in this week's National Poll, with Tampa being ranked No. 4 and Saint Leo ranked No. 18.
Defending National Champion North Georgian continues to lead the National Poll, earning 15 first-place votes and 399 total points while standing at 19-2. West Texas A&M earned the final first-place vote and has 385 total points while standing at 20-1.
The Wildcats travel to No. 4 Tampa on Thursday to take on the Spartans with the opening pitch of the doubleheader slated for 12:00 p.m.
