Softball Ranked No. 1 in NCAA East Region Poll; No. 19 in NFCA National Poll

NEW CASTLE, Del. - - The NCAA released its initial Division II Regional Rankings, and the Wilmington University softball team has its name atop the East Region with the Selection Show scheduled in two weeks.

Entering the week, the Wildcats held a 32-12 overall record with an in-region record of 26-5. They are one of two teams from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference in the poll, as Caldwell is sitting at No. 9 with a 22-20 overall record, 21-17 in regional play.

The Wildcats played each of the teams ranked No. 2-5, going 6-1 against the top competition in the region. They swept regionally ranked No. 2 Adelphi and No. 3 Pace, dropped a single game against No. 4 Assumption while in Florida, and swept No. 5 Molloy this season.

Southern New Hampshire comes in at No. 6 while Franklin Pierce is ranked No. 7 this week. St. Thomas Aquinas, another team the Wildcats swept this year, is at No. 8, followed by Caldwell (No. 9), and Saint Rose (No. 10).

The Wildcats also moved up two spots to No. 19 in this week's NFCA Division II National Poll, jumping Rollins and Lenoir-Rhyne. They are behind Grand Valley State with 115 points and ahead of Rollins with 87 points. The Wildcats amassed 101 points this week in the poll.

The Wildcats have one more CACC doubleheader to close out the Regular Season, as they travel to Dominican today. They will host Holy Family in the CACC Tournament First Round on Saturday, needing to win one of a possible two games at Asbury Field.

There will be one more NCAA Regional Poll announcement next Wednesday before the official release of the Selection Show on Monday, May 6.
