BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - - The offense finally broke loose on Saturday afternoon for the Wilmington University women's soccer team as they defeated Concordia, 5-0, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest at Holtdorf Soccer Field.

Scoring only one goal in its previous five games, the Wildcats (2-4, 2-1 CACC) broke out for five goals, holding a 2-0 halftime lead before scoring three more in the second 45 minutes. With the loss, the Clippers fall to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the CACC.

Junior Victoria Vasapolli put the Wildcats on the board early, scoring off a pass from Jenna Quaranta at the 2:01 mark from the start of the game. Quaranta was able to also record her first goal of the season later in the half, putting the Wildcats ahead, 2-0, off a long pass from the middle of the field to the left side of the box in the 15th minute. Vasapolli and Jordanne Hoesli-Atkins moved the ball up field to Quaranta and were each awarded an assist.

The first 45 minutes saw the Wildcats outshoot the Clippers, 11-1, with Concordia goalkeeper Jennifer Forlini making one save.

The offensive dominance continued for the Wildcats in the second half, as they were able to record 11 more shots, putting three behind Forlini to pad their lead.

The freshmen combination of Kim Richer and Rebecca Sowers gave the Wildcats their third goal of the afternoon, as Sowers' cross from the end line to the middle of the box found Richer who was able to score for the first time as a Wildcat in the 52nd minute.

Vasapolli collected her second goal of the game at the 59 minute mark off a pass from Richer, before Hoesli-Atkins capped the scoring for the afternoon in the 73rd minute on a penalty kick.

The Wildcats outshot the Clippers 22-1 on the afternoon, also earning six corners in the match. Wilmington goalkeeper Julia Brown secured her second shutout of the season, improving to 2-3 on the season.

Wilmington returns to the WU Athletics Complex for a pair of games this week, starting with a contest against cross-town rival Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. The week concludes with Homecoming on Saturday, as the women start against Caldwell at 12 p.m.
