Wilmington Trio Named to Volleyball All-CACC Teams, Led by Allison Briley’s CACC Rookie of the Year Honor

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - On the heels of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, three Wilmington University volleyball players were named to the All-CACC Team, voted on by the league's head coaches, announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

The trio of Wildcats paced the team to a 22-9 overall record and a 17-2 CACC record which includes the South Division's Top Seed for this week's tournament. Leading the announcement was freshman outside hitter Allison Briley who was named CACC Rookie of the Year while senior middle hitters Brittany Biddle and Katie Shorter were named First Team All-CACC. Briley was also named Honorable Mention All-CACC.

Briley (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) becomes the first CACC Rookie of the Year in Wilmington volleyball program history, leading the team with 293 kills and 2.64 kills per set while finishing second on the team with 2.83 points per set and a .233 hitting percentage. She was also 15th in the CACC with her 293 kills while coming in 11th in the conference in hitting percentage.

The freshman produced 15 matches with double-digit kills, including a season high 17 kills along with a season best 18 digs in a 3-1 victory over USciences on October 25. Briley has had three other double-doubles on the year, including a 15 kill, 10 dig performance at Goldey-Beacom on October 15.

After three seasons of being named Second Team All-CACC, Biddle (Claymont, Del./Concord) made the jump to the top team in being name First Team All-CACC as a senior. She leads the team and is third in the CACC with a .282 attack percentage, committing only 47 errors on 543 swings on the season. She is third on the team with 200 kills, 1.96 kills per set, and 68 total blocks.

The middle hitter is ninth in the CACC in block assists (54) while averaging 0.67 blocks per set. She set a career high with 15 kills on October 5 at Caldwell adding three solo blocks and one block assist in the 3-2 victory over the Cougars. Biddle knocked down double digit kills in five separate matches this season.

For the second season in a row, Shorter (Pasadena, Md./Broadneck) was voted First Team All-CACC after once again leading the conference in all things blocking. She leads the team and the CACC with 126 total blocks, denying 43 by herself and adding 83 block assists on the year. She is third on the team with a .227 attack percentage while also adding a team third best 2.69.

The middle hitter collected double-digit kills in four matches, including a season high 12 kills against Dominican on October 19. Shorter collected a season high 17.5 points in that match against the Chargers, adding three solo blocks and five block assists. She denied a season high 11 total blocks at Holy Family, picking up three solo blocks and eight block assists.

Nyack's Samantha Garza was named the CACC Player of the Year after putting down a CACC best 379 terminations. Garza's head coach Raquel Shaffer was voted as the CACC's Coach of the Year while the Warriors also earned the CACC Team Sportsmanship Award.

The CACC Tournament begins on Tuesday night with the Quarterfinal Round at the higher seed. Wilmington and Caldwell earned the top seeds from the South and North Divisions, respectively, after winning the CACC Regular Season Titles. The CACC Semifinals move to Lakewood, N.J. on the campus of Georgian Court for the remainder of the CACC Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
