NASHUA, N.H. - - Looking to compete and get a feel of the course used in the 2012 NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Meet, the Wilmington University men's and women's cross country teams competed in the RiverHawks Cross Country Invitational, hosted by UMass-Lowell on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Althea Davidson had the best individual effort on either team for the Wildcats, finishing in fifth overall, helping the Lady Wildcats to a seventh place team finish. Senior Bill Steele crossed the line eighth overall, leading the Wildcats to a fourth place finish as a team.

Adelphi took the women's team title with a low 33 points while the host UMass-Lowell men's squad took the men's team title with a low 22 points, getting all five runners to finish in the top seven.

Davidson led the Wildcats with a 19:03 finish trailing the leader by 44 seconds. Junior Jeanette Halliburton placed 19^th overall as the second Wildcat finisher, coming in at 19:35. Racing in her first meet of 2012, junior Whitney Hora, who placed second in the CACC Meet last year, was the third Wildcat to cross the line, finishing in 22:00 in 59^th overall. Freshman Morgan Ferrick was fourth on the Wildcats, coming in 62^nd with a time of 22:40. Rounding out the Wildcat scoring was senior Kristy McCrea who placed 65^th overall in a time of 22:56.

Steele led the men's team for the third week in a row, placing eighth overall in a time of 26:21, trialing the leader by 56 seconds. Sophomore Matt Mossman was the second Wildcat to cross the line, finishing 17^th overall in 26:52. Sophomore Richie Mitten placed 26^th overall and the third Wilmington scorer, coming in at 27:18. Freshman Jesus Amezquita was hot on Mitten's heels, finishing in 27^th overall, one second behind Mitten in 27:19. Rounding out the men's scoring was fellow freshman Carl Richardson, placing 55^th overall with a time of 28:44.

UMass-Lowell finished first with 22 points, followed by Adelphia with 57. Southern Connecticut State placed third as a team, scoring 89 points. Wilmington finished fourth overall, followed by College of Saint Rose (112 points) and Le Moyne (177). UMass-Lowell had the overall winner, third place, fifth, sixth and seventh places for the scoring, but also finished with the ninth and tenth best times.

On the woman's side, Adelphi finished with 33 points, while Saint Rose came in second 67 total points. Southern Connecticut State placed third with 91 points, followed by UMass-Lowell with 99. Merrimack (107), Nyack (167), Wilmington (172), and Le Moyne (177) round out the remaining teams.

Both squads return to action next weekend, as they head to the annual Philly Metro in Philadelphia. The teams will get to race on the course where the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Meet will be held, running at Fairmount Park.
