Oncay Earns Wilmington Baseball’s First Ever Rawlings Gold Glove Award as ABCA Announces All-East Region Teams

NEW CASTLE, Del. - - The postseason awards continue to mount for Wilmington University baseball seniors Joe Harbach and Jordan Oncay, but sophomore Jamie Treml got in on the act as well as the American Baseball Coaches Association named its All-East Region and Rawlings Gold Glove teams earlier this week.

Harbach continues his reign of regional first team honors as he and Oncay were named to the 2012 ABCA All-East Regional First Team while Treml earned a position on the Second Team. Oncay also earned a spot on the 2012 East Region Rawlings Gold Glove Team for is play in the outfield.

Harbach (Abingdon, Md./Edgewood/Harford CC) led the team and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with a .404 batting average (67-166), hits, 40 RBI's, six triples, 105 total bases, a .498 on-base percentage and a .633 slugging percentage in the regular season. He was also in the top five in the CACC in doubles (15), home runs (4), hit-by-pitch (15), and sacrifice flies (4). He was also second on the team with 10 stolen bases on the season.

Named the CACC Player of the Year and to the NCBWA and Daktronics All-East Region First Teams, Harbach finished the year batting .380 after hitting 6-for-26 in the CACC and Regional Tournaments with one double and two RBI's. He played in all 51 games, hitting 73-for-192, with 112 total bases, a .583 slugging percentage and a .472 on-base percentage.

Oncay (Newark, Del./St. Mark's) earns First Team ABCA All-East Region for the second year in a row, this year as a relief pitcher. The team's closer, Oncay recorded a conference best 11 saves and went 6-0 in 19 appearances this season. He posted a team best 1.37 ERA in 26.1 innings while holding opposing batters to a .168 average. He was on the tail end of five shutouts this year, including two in the postseason, while striking out 33 batters with only eight walks. His stretch of 26 consecutive scoreless appearances and 28 scoreless innings dating back to May 7, 2010 was snapped on April 7 against Post. Oncay did not allow a run in four innings during the CACC and NCAA East Regional Tournaments, picking up a win and two saves with six strikeouts while not issuing a walk. Oncay was selected to the All-CACC first team as well.

Treml (Bear, Del./Hodgson Vo. Tech) turned it on of late, allowing one earned run in his final 28.2 innings pitched, including throwing two shutouts in the postseason. He opened the CACC Tournament with a one-hit complete game shutout while striking out a CACC Tournament record 16 Dominican batters in the 1-0 win. He then started the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament with eight more shutout innings against Le Moyne in his final outing of the season. He led all CACC starters with a 1.70 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 18 appearances (11 starts).

The sophomore went 5-2 in 79.1 innings pitched this season and allowing opposing hitters to bat a measly .193 off him. He was named to the All-CACC Second Team and earned the CACC Tournament MVP for his one-hit shutout. He also earned a spot on the NCAA Division II East Regional All-Tournament team for his effort against Le Moyne. He was named the ABCA All-East Region Rookie of the Year in 2011.

Oncay also collected the program's first ever East Region Rawlings Gold Glove award, as he posted 99 putouts and eight assists while only committing one error for a .991 fielding percentage while playing in all 51 games this season. The senior started every game in right field for the Wildcats and batted .238 with 10 doubles, two triple, two home runs and 27 RBI's.

Each member of the ABCA All-East Region and All East-Region Gold Glove First Teams will be eligible for NCAA Division II All-American or Rawlings All-American Gold Glove consideration, which will be selected on Sunday, May 27, 2017 in Cary, N.C. in conjunction with the Division II National Championship Tournament.
