Wilmington Well Represented as CACC Announces First Spring Weekly Reports

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - With the first official Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Spring Weekly Reports announced, the Wilmington University spring teams were well represented, as Rebekah McCurry and Gabby Spalt were honored for women's lacrosse and Josh Hampton was honored for baseball.

McCurry was named the CACC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week while Spalt was named a CACC Co-Rookie of the Week for their work in leading the Wildcats to a 2-1 overall record to start the season. Hampton was named a CACC Baseball Co-Player of the Week after leading the Wildcats to a 9-2-1 record following their annual trip to Florida.

Baseball's Ray Gambone and softball's Kelsey Doherty were also mentioned in the weekly reports, earning a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll for each sport.

McCurry, a junior from St. Leonard, Md., tied for the team lead with nine goals and an assist through the team's first three games, but also paced the team with 19 draw controls, eight ground balls, and six caused turnovers. She scored a season's best four goals against Delaware State on Saturday, after scoring a hat trick against Nyack in the team's CACC opener. McCurry added a season's high five ground balls and eight draw controls against Delaware State.

Spalt, a freshman from Forest Hill, Md., led the team with four goals and an assist for five points against Nyack in the team's first win of the season last week. She is currently third on the team with seven goals and two assists for nine points after three games, putting a team high 16 shots on frame. She added another hat trick with three goals and added an assist against Delaware State on Saturday, contributing a season's best three ground balls in the victory.

Hampton, a senior from West Grove, Pa. , leads the team with 14 RBI after 12 games, hitting a team high six doubles, and two home runs. He is second on the team with 12 runs scored and a .390 batting average, slugging a team best .683 since the start of the season. Hampton started the season on a 10-game hitting streak, going 16-for-33 during the run. He was named a Co-Player of the Week with Felician's Scott De Jong.

Gambone earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll after starting the year 2-0 on the mound for the Wildcats. He has a team high 16 strikeouts in 16 innings pitched, earning wins against Mercyhurst and Molloy.

Doherty is the lone representative on the softball weekly report, earning a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll after leading the team with a .417 batting average after 24 at-bats. She has a team high 10 hits, with five of them coming as extra base hits including two doubles, two triples, and a home run.
