NEWARK, Del. - - In addition to his Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week honor, senior Ryan Sandberg was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA) East Region Pitcher of the Week on Wednesday.
It is the second week in a row that Sandberg was named the CACC Pitcher of the Week, but earned the status of best pitcher in the Region last week with his performance against Fairmont State in Wilson, North Carolina.
Ryan Sandberg (Island Park, N.Y./West Hempstead) earned the NCBWA East Region Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career. He pitched seven innings against Fairmont State, opening the weekend with 12 strikeouts without allowing a run to move to 2-0 on the year. He gave up three hits and only one walk in the 11-0 victory.
So far this season, Sandberg is 2-0 in two starts, pitching 13 innings against New Haven and Fairmont State. He has 20 strikeouts with only one walk, allowing eight hits without giving up a run. He is carrying a 13.85 strikeouts per nine inning ratio into his next game.
The Wildcats are off until Tuesday, March 15 when they host Shippensburg at Wilson Field. The first pitch is schedule for 3:00 p.m.
