LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. - - Rashaun Rasheed nailed a half-court shot as time expired to send the Wilmington University men's basketball game at Lincoln (Pa.) into overtime, but the Lions prevailed, 81-79, in the extra period on Saturday inside Manuel Rivero Hall.

The Wildcats (2-4) held a six point advantage at the halftime break and as large as a 10 point lead with 2:58 remaining in regulation before watching the Lions (3-1) storm back to take a three point lead with nine seconds left on the scoreboard.

Leading 63-53 after Shai Henry slammed home a dunk with 2:58 to play in regulation, the Lions went on a 14-3 run to grab a 67-66 lead with 39 seconds to play after a layup by Justin Jackson. Another layup by George Jackson put the Lions ahead 69-66 with nine seconds showing on the scoreboard before a last ditch effort by Rasheed rang true at the buzzer, sending the game into overtime.

Senior guard Herb Dennis scored a career high 33 points in the afternoon, shooting 9-of-14 from the floor and adding an outstanding 12-of-13 from the foul line. Henry led the team with 12 points at the halftime break and finished with 15 points while Rasheed ended with 11 points and seven rebounds. Shaq Monroe-Gaksin added 10 points off the bench, shooting 3-of-5 from the floor and adding 3-of-4 from the foul line.

After giving up an early lead, the Wildcats fired back to grab a lead off a layup from Henry at 14-13 with 13:17 to play in the first half. The Wildcats' lead extended to as large as 10 on two occasions in the second half, first after Valentino Thompson hit a three-pointer with 6:51 remaining and again at the 5:23 mark after a layup by Henry to put the Wildcats ahead, 31-21.

The lead reached double figures on two occasions once again in the second half, first after a layup by Rasheed at the 6:40 mark and again after the dunk by Henry with 2:58 to play in regulation.

The overtime period never swayed in the Wildcats' favor, as the Lions gained the early lead and held on throughout. Wilmington tied the match with 2:05 left to play on a Dennis three-pointer, but that would be the only tie of the overtime, as the Lions led the rest of the way.

Wilmington begins its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schedule in its next contest, squaring off at Chestnut Hill on Tuesday. The men will be the second match of the CACC doubleheader, as the women's game starts at 6 p.m. with the men following at 8 p.m.
