Amiri Stewart Named CACC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - After scoring 30 or more points in back-to-back games, Wilmington University men's basketball junior Amiri Stewart has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

The guard helped lead the Wildcats to a 1-1 week, scoring 30 and 31 points in the two games, respectively. More impressively, he shot 71.4 percent from the floor for the week, shooting 15-for-21 overall. He also helped the Wildcats to a program record 40 made free throws in the win over Dominican, going 14-for-15 from the charity stripe.

Overall, Stewart averaged 30.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.0 steals per game last week in two games. he went 15-of-21 from the floor and an additional 28-of-35 from the free throw line.

In the loss to Jefferson, Stewart scored 30 points in 28 minutes, shooting 7-of-11 from the floor and 14-of-20 from the foul line. He added six assists, three rebounds, and two steals as well. In the victory over Dominican on Saturday, Stewart scored 31 more points, shooting 8-of-10 from the field and an additional 14-of-15 from the free throw line. He added eight rebounds, three assists, and a block as well.

Saturday was the sixth consecutive game in which Stewart scored 20 or more points and the 17th straight game in double figures. In those six games, Stewart is averaging 25.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 2.7 steals per game all while shooting 57.7 percent from the floor.

Post's TaQuan Williams was named the CACC Rookie of the Week while Bloomfield's Edward Ngene was named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday as well.
