Title: Assistant Coach

A true student of the game, Delorian Heard joins head coach Dan Burke and the Wilmington Men’s Basketball staff as an assistant coach for the 2019-20 season.

Heard becomes a Wildcat after a three-year stint as an assistant at Camden County Community College. In his first year with the program, he helped lead the Cougars to an impressive 24-10 record, leading them to the NJCAA Region XIX Championship. Most recently, he helped coach the team to the playoffs with a 17-15 record, advancing to the Region XIX Quarterfinals.

He earned his coaching start in Atlanta by staying involved in the sport with training junior high and high school kids. He soon received a call from the University of Southern Mississippi to join Doc Sadler’s staff as a student assists and manager. While at Southern Miss, he worked with premier Division I student-athletes and was responsible for training players, teaching plays, and helping to implement workout regiments.

Heard grew up in Detroit, Michigan and played basketball from a young age. He helped lead Team Detroit to the 2009 AAU National Championship. He went on to play one season for NJCAA Gillette College in Wyoming before transferring to Redlands Community College in Oklahoma.

He earned his Associates of Art degree at Redlands before moving to Atlanta. He also earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Southern Mississippi in the summer of 2019.
