Marino, Bruhn, and Roland Named CACC Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Giovanni Marino scored the game-winning goal in a 17-16 overtime victory against Chestnut Hill last week, earning him the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the third straight week while Nick Bruhn and Jason Roland joined him on the Weekly Report on Monday.

The win moves the Wildcats to 9-3 overall and 5-0 in CACC play. It is also the second time this season that Nick Bruhn has been named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week and third time that Jason Roland has been named the CACC Goalkeeper of the Week.

Giovanni Marino (Woolwich, N.J.) scored the overtime winner just 53 seconds into the overtime period, using the turf to bounce it over the keeper and into the back of the net to send the team into pandemonium. He scored four goals against the Griffins overall, scoring the team's first two goals of the game and then giving the Wildcats a 14-10 lead with the first goal of the fourth quarter prior to the overtime winner. He also scooped up five ground balls in the game. He now leads the CACC with 43 goals and is third overall with 52 points on the year.

Nick Bruhn (Burke, Va.) was named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week back on March 28 as well. He led the Wildcats defensive line with three caused turnovers and five ground balls in the 17-16 win over Chestnut Hill. He is fifth in the CACC with 17 caused turnovers on the year.

Jason Roland (West Lawn, Pa.) picks up his third CACC Goalkeeper of the Week award after winning the honor on March 21 and April 4. He recorded 10 saves in the big CACC win over Chestnut Hill, adding four ground balls in the win. Six of his 10 saves came in the fourth quarter as Chestnut Hill was putting the pressure on in coming back. Roland is third in the CACC with a .551 save percentage and second overall with a 10.00 goals against average on the year.

The Wildcats have one more game scheduled in the regular season as its final nonconference game on Wednesday against St. Thomas Aquinas has been cancelled. The Wildcats will now play at Post on Saturday. The opening face-off is now scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at LaMoy Field.
