NEW CASTLE, Del. - - A hot start in game one and the arms of Chelsea Botsch and Katie Warrington helped carry the Wilmington University softball team to a key Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader sweep over University of the Sciences on Wednesday afternoon at Asbury Field.

Wilmington (20-19, 12-4 CACC) moved back above .500 with the sweep, scoring in all but one inning in game one before shutting out the Devils (12-16, 10-10 CACC) in game two on the strength of the arm of Warrington.

The Wildcats went with Botsch in game one in the circle, and she delivered a complete game master piece, allowing only one run on nine hits, striking out four batters to move to 5-6 on the season.

Botsch would receive all the help she would need in the bottom of the first inning, as the Wildcats put a three spot up on the board.

With runners on second and third and one out, Jill Stafford roped a single into left field, scoring Brooke Berger from third with the game's first run. Kinsley Parker executed a squeeze play in the next at-bat, sacrificing Christin Headley home to make it 2-0 with two outs in the inning.

Rachel Painter walked to put two runs on again in the first inning, and Kristin Garvin made Devils' starter Courtney Spina pay with a two-out double to right center scoring Stafford. The Wildcats tried to tack on another on the play, but Painter was cut down at the plate on the relay from right field.

The only inning the Wildcats did not score was in the bottom of the second inning, as they added single runs in each of the next four innings to close out the game.

Berger accounted for the run in the bottom of the third, as she led off the inning with her first home run of the season, solo shot to center field for the 4-0 lead. Headley and Stafford would to hit back-to-back singles and Parker would reach on an error to load the bases with no outs, but the Devils were able to get out of the inning to escape any further damage.

With Thompson standing on third after reaching on a single and two outs, Headley singled into right field, allowing Thompson to trop home for the fourth inning run and the 5-0 lead.

After the Devils scored their lone run of the afternoon in the top of the fifth, the Wildcats responded with another run in the home half of the inning. Stafford started the inning with a double to left center. Now with runners on first and third and two outs, Botsched reached on an error, scoring Stafford from third and the 6-1 lead.

Headley completed her 4-for-4 game in the sixth with a double, knocking in Thompson who singled to lead off the inning from first for her second RBI of the game.

Botsch would leave the bases loaded in the seventh to record the complete game win, moving the Wildcats back to .500 on the year.

The second game was more of a pitcher's duel between the two teams, as UScience's starter Julie Shaw only allowed single runs in the first, third and fourth innings. That was more than enough for Warrington, as she only allowed three hits in complete game win.

Wilmington would score all the runs it would need in the first inning, started by singles from Thompson and Headley. Still with two runners on and two outs, Painter smoked a doubled to right center, scoring Headley from second base to the game's first run.

Headley was in the mix once again in the third inning, as she doubled home Berger from first base to make it 2-0. Berger hit a one-out single to start the rally, while Headley's ball went down the left field line for her third RBI of the day.

Meghan Logullo scored the game's final run in the fourth, as she hit a one-out single into center field to jumpstart the inning. Two batters later, she scored an unearned run as Berger reached on a field error by the shortstop.

Warrington took care of it from there, striking out a season high 13 Devils en route to the victory. Warrington, named the CACC Pitcher of the Week for the third consecutive voting period yesterday, moved to 11-7 on the year and lowered her season's earned run average to 0.99 with the shutout.

Headley batted 6-for-8 on the afternoon, knocking in three runs and scoring two to lead the Wildcats. Berger added five hits in the two games while Thompson chipped in with four hits in the doubleheader. In all, Wilmington combined for 23 hits on the day.

With the two wins, the Wildcats move into a tie with Holy Family in the loss column in third place in the CACC standings. Wilmington will look to improve on their record on Saturday, as they host Post (11-27, 9-11 CACC) for a CACC doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. It is also the final home games for the Wildcats in 2012 and the team will honor its four seniors following the doubleheader on Senior Day.
