Shemar Parker and Freja Olofsson Earn CACC Track Athletes of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The Wilmington University Track & Field team saw two new honorees to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Major Awards. Shemar Parker earns CACC Men's Track Athlete of the Week, and freshman Freja Olofsson wins CACC Field Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference's office this week.

Shemar Parker (New Castle, Del.) earns the CACC Track Athlete of the Week thanks to his efforts in the Osprey Open Decathlon. Parker scored a total of 5,766 points. In addition, Parker scored the highest points in the 100-meter dash, earning 771 points, crossing the line at 11.41 seconds. Overall, Parker finished first in eight of the ten decathlon events.

Freja Olofsson (Olofstrom, Sweden) has been named the CACC Rookie Field Athlete of the Week for her performance in the discus throw at the Osprey Open this past weekend. Olofsson finished second overall out of forty throwers in the event. Olofsson's toss of 38.30 meters broke her school record. She is now second overall in the CACC and is the top freshman in the event.

The Men's Track & Field Team move up one spot in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division II East Region Poll to the No. 2 spot. Wilmington sits behind Southern Connecticut and has 586.60 total points for second overall in the region. Wilmington is now the highest-ranked team in the CACC, three weeks into the poll. The Women's Track & Field Team is in the Top 10, ranking 9th overall in the East Region with 271.06 points.

The Wilmington University Track & Field Team will be back at West Chester University next weekend for the Bill Butler Invitational on Saturday, April 15.
