Bowling Goes 7-2 at Golden Bear Classic to Finish Fourth in Another Solid Showing

SINKING SPRING, Pa. - - The Wilmington University women's bowling team produced another solid showing to start the 2022-23 season, finishing fourth overall with a 7-2 head-to-head record at the Golden Bear Classic over the weekend.

The Wildcats went 4-1 in Baker Matches on Sunday, completing a 7-2 overall record. They were tied with three other teams at 7-2 on the weekend, but lost the tiebreakers to head into the positional round at the No. 4 team.

Sunday started with a loss to Morgan State, 960-882, but the Wildcats rebounded nicely by winning the final three games of the Baker rounds. They defeated Kutztown, 931-841, and then had their best showing against Molloy, winning, 1010-911. They closed out the Baker Matches with a 987-872 win against Chestnut Hill.

The Wildcats paired up with Morgan State to play for Third Place, but Morgan State was able to take it to Wilmington, 4-1. Morgan State came out hot and won the first game of the Baker Best of Seven, 236-192. They took a 3-0 lead with wins of 175-161 and 192-161 before the Wildcats extended the contest with a game four win, 226-146. But the Bears closed out the contest, 162-138, in game five.

The Wildcats had the second most pinfall in Baker matches on Sunday with 3,810, trailing only Fairleigh Dickinson's 3,923 total pinfall.

Caldwell defeated Fairleigh Dickinson in a modified Baker tiebreaker after splitting the best of seven, 3.5-3.5. Caldwell edged FDU in a five-frame Baker match, 94-93, to win the championship.

Wilmington will be back in action in the first weekend of November when they travel to Staten Island to take part in the Seahawk Invite, hosted by Wagner College at Rab's Country Lanes. The two-day tournament begins on Saturday, November 5.
