DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - - Sophomore Rebekah McCurry recorded a hat trick on Saturday but the Wilmington University women's lacrosse second half rally fell just short as Mercy College pulled away late to win, 12-7, on the second of back-to-back away games for the Wildcats.

Ashley Kroll and McCurry scored consecutive goals to start the second half to cut the deficit to one goal while Jaclyn Hall made it as close as one once again with only 9:39 remaining in the contest, but Mercy (1-0) responded with three straight and five of the games' next six goals to pull away late in the contest.

Playing on back-to-back days for the only time on the 2013 schedule, the Wildcats (0-3) came out and scored the games' first goal as McCurry beat Flyers' netminder Kristen Znaniecki 1:41 into the game. Mercy responded with four straight goals over the next 10 minutes to take the lead in the first half.

After a brief scoring draught, Wilmington got back on the board as McCurry put her second of the game in the net with 6:41 to play in the first half. The teams traded goals to close out the first half, as Jessica Stratton go in on the scoring with a goal at the 5:56 mark, but it was a Mercy goal from Nicole Kline that closed out the half with the Flyers taking a 6-3 lead into the break.

Kroll opened the second half scoring with her only goal of the game nearly 10 minutes into the second frame before McCurry capped her hat trick with a goal at the 16:36 mark to close to within 6-5. Mercy extended the lead back out to two goals before Hall scored her first of the day to pull within 7-6, but that would be as close as the Wildcats would get for the rest of the game.

Hall finished with two goals as well while Stratton and Kroll finished off the scoring for the Wildcats with one goal each. Stratton also led the Wildcats with four draw controls while Sarah Lindler picked up three ground balls on defense.

The Flyers outshot the Wildcats, 25-18 for the match, but Wildcats goalkeeper Kaitlyn Hall recorded 12 saves on the afternoon to keep the visitors in the contest. Mercy narrowly picked up more ground balls than the Wildcats, 15-14, while each team grabbed 10 draws to being its offensive possession.

The Wildcats remain on the road for their next contest, playing the third of five straight away from home on Tuesday at Millersville. The opening draw is schedule for 4 p.m.
