NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's lacrosse team will play 15 regular season games, including nine Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contests, to prepare it for postseason play as head coach Jackie Trainer has announced the 2016 schedule.

The Wildcats will look to improve upon their 7-11 overall record from 2015 and take a step further then the CACC Tournament Semifinal match that ended their season last spring.

The 2016 slate opens with six nonconference opponents, starting with the home opener on February 27 against Queens at the WU Athletics Complex. The Wildcats take to the road for their next four games, heading to Shorter University in Rome, Georgia to begin the month of March. The team will also head to Shepherd on March 10 and East Stroudsburg on March 22. The final home game before the CACC schedule begins is against Molloy on March 26.

The CACC portion of the schedule begins on March 30 on the road at Chestnut Hill. The Wildcats and Griffins last met in the CACC Tournament Quarterfinal round at the WU Athletics Complex, a 22-20 overtime barnburner victory for the Wildcats.

April begins with a pair of CACC home games against Dominican (April 2) and Caldwell (April 5). Then the Wildcats hit the road once again, heading to CACC Tournament Runner-Up Georgian Court, first year program Felician, and Nyack, before return to Newark.

A contest against Philadelphia on April 19 starts a two-game home stand for the Wildcats, as they also host Post on Saturday April 23 for Senior Day.

The 2016 regular season comes to a close on April 28 at the home of the reigning CACC Tournament Champions in Holy Family.

The Wildcats are fighting to be one of the top six teams in the standings during CACC play, with the plan to advance to another CACC Tournament. The first round of the CACC Tournament will be on Saturday, May 3 at the higher seed, with the winner advancing to the CACC Tournament Semifinals hosted by Georgian Court on May 7. A champion will be crowned in Lakewood, N.J., on Sunday, May 8.
