Wilmington Women’s Lacrosse Tabbed Sixth in 2017 CACC Preseason Coaches Poll

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The Wilmington University women's lacrosse team was slotted sixth in the 2017 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced on Tuesday by Commissioner Dan Mara. The Wildcats picked up 51 points in a vote of the leagues' 10 head coaches.

Defending CACC Tournament champion Philadelphia was selected to repeat atop the CACC standings, picking up five first place votes and 94 points overall. CACC Tournament Runner-Ups Chestnut Hill landed four first place votes and 89 total points to sit in second followed by Georgian Court with 77 points in third place.

Holy Family grabbed the final first place vote and totaled 67 points overall to land in fourth followed by Caldwell's 62 points for fifth place. After Wilmington's 51 points and sixth place finish is Dominican (40 points), Nyack (33), Post (25), and Felician (12).

The top six teams in the regular season standings will advance to the CACC Championship tournament, which will be held April 25, 29-30. The first and second place teams in the standings following the regular season will get a bye into the championship weekend at Georgian Court University, while the first round will feature the third seed hosting the sixth seed and the fifth seed traveling to the fourth seed. The two first round winners will advance to the semifinals in Lakewood, N.J.

The Wildcats' season is set to begin on Saturday, February 25 when they host Shippensburg at the WU Athletics Complex with a 1:00 p.m. opening draw.
