Chelsea Grace’s Hat Trick and Four Goals Overall Earn Her CACC Player of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Junior forward Chelsea Grace helped lead the Wilmington University women's soccer team to a 2-0 week last week, scoring a four goals for eight points, earning her the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week award, announce by the conference office on Tuesday.

The Wildcats defeated Chestnut Hill and Caldwell last week, setting up an opportunity to win the CACC regular season championship outright yesterday, which the Wildcats capitalized upon on its home field. Grace was the catalyst last week in getting to that point, running her personal goal scoring streak to three straight matches.

In the week's first match against Chestnut Hill, the Griffins came back to tie the match 2-2 early in the second half, but Grace took the game into her own hands and scored the next two goals, giving her the game-winner as the Wildcats came away with a 6-2 victory. She also scored the first goal of the match, giving her a hat trick. It was her first hat trick of her career and the first Wildcat with three goals in a game since 2009.

She followed that performance up with the game-tying goal at Caldwell, scoring in the 21st minute to knot the match at 1-1. At that point, it was her eighth goal of the season, a team high.

Grace went on to score two more goals and added two assists against Georgian Court on Tuesday, upping her team lead to 10 goals and seven assists for 27 points.

Felician's Macki Groves earned the CACC rookie of the Week award after scoring two goals in a span of 1:19 to help turn a 2-0 deficit against Georgian Court in the 68th minute into an eventual 3-2 Felician victory.

The Wildcats will determine their opponent following the Caldwell and Dominican matchup on Thursday. Wilmington will host the CACC First Round matchup with the eighth seed on Monday, October 29 starting at 2 p.m. at the WU Athletics Center.
