Samantha Emmi and Lauren Hoelke Earn United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Honors

NEWARK, Del. - - For the first time since the 2017 season, the Wilmington University women's soccer team placed student-athletes on the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Teams, as sophomore Samantha Emmi and graduate Lauren Hoelke continue to earn postseason accolades.

It is the second All-Region award for both Emmi and Hoelke, as Emmi was slotted in as a Second Team All-Region defender and Hoelke earned a spot as a Third Team All-Region forward.

It is only the third time in program history that the Wildcats placed two student-athletes on the United Soccer Coaches (formally the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)) All-Region Team, as voted on by the region's head coaches. The Wildcats had two Third Team member on the coaches' team in 2010 and a second and third teamer in 2012. Loran Wyrough was the last Wildcat to earn a United Soccer Coaches All-Region honor in 2017.

Samantha Emmi (Logan Township, N.J.) started all 20 games at the centerback position for the Wildcats, anchoring a defense that allowed a 0.97 goals against average on the year. She was also the main target on all set pieces for the Wildcats, either taking the set piece or getting on the receiving end, scoring all of her six goals from set pieces on the year. She finished third on the team with six goals, adding two assists to finish fifth on the team with 14 points. She scored two goals at Caldwell and the game-winning goal against Goldey-Beacom in the CACC Quarterfinal. She was named the CACC Defensive Player of the Year as well.

Lauren Hoelke (Blackwood, N.J.) also came on strong down the stretch for the Wildcats, scoring nine points in her final six games of the year. She scored two goals against Georgian Court and then had a goal in each of the first two CACC Tournament games against Goldey-Beacom and Georgian Court, respectively. She finished second on the team and 10th in the CACC with 17 points, scoring eight goals while adding one assist in her lone season as a Wildcat.

The Wildcats finished 12-5-3 overall, falling in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship game. It was their first appearance in the Championship game since 2017.
