Alyssa Ruggeri Named CACC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Scoring three goals and adding an assist in a 1-0-2 week led Wilmington University women's soccer's Alyssa Ruggeri to being named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week on Monday.

Alyssa Ruggeri and the Wildcats tied Chestnut Hill, 1-1, beat Mercy, 3-1, in their final nonconference game, and tied Caldwell, 2-2. The Wildcats are now 9-2-4 overall and sit in second place in the CACC with a 6-1-2 conference record.

Ruggeri, who has battled injuries throughout the season, collected her first multi-goal game as a Wildcat at Mercy, scoring two goals in the 3-1 win. She scored the opening goal in the 34th minute and then added an insurance goal in the 67th minute for the 3-1 lead.

The junior forward then assisted in the team's first goal at Caldwell and then scored in the 54th minute to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead.

Ruggeri now has four goals and three assists on the season, rankings third on the team with 11 points in 10 games this season.

The Wildcats play at Felician on Saturday night and then head across town to play at Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday afternoon to wrap up the 2023 regular season.
