Manuela Restrepo and Brianna Wons Earn D2CCA Women’s Soccer All-Region Honors

NEWARK, Del. - - A pair of Wilmington University women's soccer standouts have been named All-Region as the 2023 Division II Conference Commissioner's Association All-East Region Teams have been announced.

Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Year Manuela Restrepo was named a First Team All-Region performer while teammate Brianna Wons was voted a Second Team All-Region performer. The D2CCA All-Region teams are voted on by the region's sports information directors.

Despite missing three games, including the final two games of the season, Manuela Restrepo (Medellin, Colombia) finished second in the CACC with 29 points on the year, finishing fourth in the league with 10 goals while leading the way with nine assists on the season. She had three games with multiple goals, including a hat trick at Post on September 16. She also scored twice at Adelphi and had a season high six points with two goals and two assists at Dominican. She also had a season's best three assists at St. Thomas Aquinas. Restrepo is the first Wildcat to be named CACC Player of the Year since Begum Malali in 2007 and is the third overall with Katie Mazzio in 2004.

Brianna Wons (Cherry Hill, N.J.) joined the Wildcats this year and anchored the defense to only allowing 15 goals during the regular season from the centerback position. She was also the focal point in taking set pieces, scoring four goals while adding three assists for 11 points, ranking fourth on the team. She scored a goal and two assists against Molloy and again against Bloomfield on Homecoming. She also scored at St. Thomas Aquinas and against Bridgeport.

It is the third straight season the Wildcats have had All-Region selections. It Is the first All-Region honors for both Restrepo and Wons.

Saint Rose, the No. 1 ranked team in the East Region, featured the D2CCA East Region Player of the Year, as Mia Klammer took home the honors after scoring 18 goals and 16 assists for 52 points on the year.
