Wildcats Win Second Match in as Many Days With 6-1 Win at Chestnut Hill

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team won its 13th straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup on Monday afternoon, defeating Chestnut Hill on the road to improve to 7-0 overall.

The Wildcats stay atop the CACC standings with a perfect 7-0 record. They went 6-0 last fall in the CACC and haven't lost a conference match since October 19, 2019, since they didn't play in the 2020-21 season.

On Monday, the Wildcats picked up the doubles point with their first two finishes of the afternoon. Jess Purdy and Neus Ramos Moreno started with a 6-0 win at No. 3 and then Carmelle Vial and Fenna Swaan earned the Wildcats the point with a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles. Chestnut Hill took No. 2 doubles, 6-4, over Marley Trifunovic and Alva Norberg.

Valentina Ivankovic started the singles action with a 6-3 and 6-0 win at No. 4 before Fenna Swaan gave the Wildcats a 3-0 win with a 6-4 and 6-1 win at No. 6. Chestnut Hill got on the board and stayed in the match with a win at No. 1 before the final three matches were all headed to a third set.

Larize Nel dropped her first set, 6-1, at No. 5 singles, but then came back on fire, winning the second set, 6-0, and the third set, 6-2, to win the match and earn the Wildcats the team win, 4-1. Marley Trifunovic had the same outcome at No. 3 singles, dropping the first set, 6-1, before battling back to take the second set, 6-4, and the match, 6-2, in the third. Jess Purdy won the first set, 6-4, at No. 2 singles, but dropped the second set, 6-4, to go to a third set superset. Purdy pulled out the match, 10-8, to give the Wildcats a 6-1 victory.

The Wildcats' busy week continues Wednesday when they host Goldey-Beacom at the Delcastle Tennis Center. The Wildcats will also recognize the 2021-22 team who won the East Region 1 Championship following the match. The opening serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
