PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - - The Wilmington University volleyball team stretched its current win streak to six straight matches, coming from behind to defeat Holy Family, 3-1, staying unbeaten in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference on Friday night at the Campus Center.

The six match win streak is the second longest of the season for the Wildcats (16-4, 8-0 CACC) and the eight consecutive wins in the conference is the best since the 2004 team went 20-0 throughout the entire conference season. Holy Family (6-14, 4-5 CACC) won the first set, but was unable to figure out the Wildcats for the rest of the match.

Set scores for the match were 23-25, 25-23, 25-21, and 25-21.

Tonight the Wildcats were led by their two-headed monster in the middle as junior Brittany Biddle had a season high 14 kills on 25 swings and a .480 attack percentage to lead the offense. Classmate Katie Shorter led the defensive effort as the middle had a match high three solo blocks and added two block assists.

Trailing 14-11 in the first set, the Wildcats fought back to score three straight points to notch it at 14-14 and scored two consecutive points to tie it again at 17-17. Still tied at 21-21, the Tigers scored back-to-back points to take a 23-21 lead and hung on for good as the teams traded points back and forth the rest of the way.

The Wildcats led the second set wire-to-wire, only allowing one tie throughout the set. The team took as big as a 17-12 lead midway through the game before the host Tigers clawed back. Taking seven of the next ten points, Holy Family battled back to tie the match at 20-20. But the Wildcats scored back-to-back points with a Biddle kill and a Tiger attack error to take the lead for good. A kill by Alex Siolos and another Tiger error led to a Wildcat set point at 24-21. The Tigers fought back to close the game to 24-23, but a block by Siolos and Shorter closed the set, 25-23.

Two large runs were the story in the third set, as the Wildcats battled back from being down 15-10 early in the third frame. With Shelby Henderson serving, the Wildcats rattled off seven straight points, and 12 of the next 13 points overall to take a 21-17 lead. Freshman Kaitlin DiGiacinto had a pair of kills in the run while Biddle picked up three big kills and a solo block on the final Wildcat point of the run. Holy Family closed the gap to 23-21 but Nicole Wiechecki gave the Wildcats set point before a ball handling errors on the Tigers put the visitors up 2-1 for the match.

The fourth set was a game of mini runs for the Wildcats as they piled on consecutive points for every Tiger gem, but never put together more than three consecutive points throughout the game. They took an early 7-5 lead with three straight points aided by a DiGiacinto ace and a Wiechecki kill. Another three point swing stretched the margin to 15-10 in favor of the Wildcats as a pair of Tiger errors were sandwiched around a Henderson ace.

Wiechecki gave Wilmington its biggest lead of the fourth set with another kill, 21-15, putting the Wildcats in a favorable situation. Holy Family battled to take six of the next eight points, before a Tiger service error gave the Wildcats match points, 24-21. DiGiacinto confirmed the Wildcats eighth CACC victory with a kill, winning the match 25-21.

Wiechecki was the only other Wildcat with double digit kills, as she collected a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs. Tonight was her seventh double-double of the season. Siolos spread the offense around with 28 assists while sophomore Kasey Couch added 12 helpers.

DiGiacinto and Annie Scarfo paced the defense with 13 digs each, followed by Couch's 12 digs and Wiecheki's 10. Biddle added two solo and one block assist on the night. The Wildcats out blocked the Tigers, 8-6, as a team.

Wilmington has a short turnaround for its next match, as the Wildcats return home on Saturday. The Wildcats put their perfect CACC record on the line against Concordia starting at 12 p.m. in the WU Athletics Complex.
