New Races Highlights Wilmington Cross Country’s 2018 Schedules

NEWARK, Del. - - A jam packed schedule has the Wilmington University cross country teams primed to make another deep postseason run as head coach Keith Jones has announced the 2018 campaign.

The Wildcats featured the top runner on the men's side in 2017, while the women tied their best overall finish at the CACC Championship, coming in second overall. The Wildcats will run on all five Saturday's in September and seven Saturday's in a row to prepare for the postseason in 2018.

Jones will again have his team begin the season on their home course, running in the 18th Annual WUXC Invite at Carousel Park on Saturday, September 1. The opening gun of the season will go off at 9:45 a.m. for the women, followed by a 10:30 a.m. start for the men's teams.

The Wildcats will head to a familiar course on September 8, running in the Philly Metro on Belmont Plateau. After a few years' hiatus, the Wildcats will head to the Division II/III Challenge hosted by Kutztown University on September 15.

A new race appears on the schedule for the Wildcats on September 22, as they take a trip to the University of Arkansas to compete in the 30th Annual Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas. September rounds outs with a familiar race, as they return to Salisbury University to compete in the Don Cathcart Invitational on the 29th.

The Wildcats remain close for their final two races of the regular season, as they will compete in the UD Blue & Gold Invite at White Clay Creek State Park on October 6. The regular season comes to a close on the 13th, as they teams head to a new location and compete in the Inter-Regional Border Battle hosted by Rowan University in Logan Township, N.J.

The CACC Championships returns to Fairmount Park and Belmont Plateau this fall, with two champions being crowned on Sunday, October 28. The NCAA Division II East Regional Championship meet is set for Delaware Park GC in Buffalo, N.Y. on November 4 with the National Championship scheduled on November 18 at the Angel Mounds Course in Evansville, Indiana.
