Brandon Grygo Named CACC Rookie of the Year to Lead Four Wildcats on Baseball’s All-CACC First Team

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Four Wilmington University baseball student-athletes were voted to the All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference First Team, led by freshman Brandon Grygo who was voted CACC Rookie of the Year in a vote by the league head coaches.

Brandon Grygo (OF), Matt Warrington (SP), Dom Grady (RP), and Tyler Pirrung (UT-Player) were all voted First Team All-CACC and the conference office announced its postseason awards on Tuesday.

For the first time since 2016, a Wildcats has been named CACC Rookie of the Year, as Brandon Grygo (New Castle, Del.) becomes just the third Wildcat ever to earn the first-year distinction. He joins Jamie Treml (2011) and Julian Kurych (2016) as Wildcats earning the Major Award in their rookie campaign in the Wildcats' NCAA era.

Grygo led the CACC with a .388 batting average, finishing sixth in the league with a .612 slugging percentage and ninth overall with a .458 on-base percentage. He had 52 hits on the year, collecting 13 doubles, four triples, and three homers, totaling a 1.070 OPS as a freshman. His 82 total bases rank eighth in the CACC while he was second on the team with 24 RBI and led the team with 37 runs scored. He also appeared in eight games on the mound for the Wildcats, going 1-0 with a 4.26 ERA in 12.2 innings pitched.

Matt Warrington (Millsboro, Del.) is a repeat First Team All-CACC performer, being named the CACC Pitcher of the Year in 2023. This year, he went 5-2 on the mound, making nine starts in 12 appearances. He finished third in the CACC with 73 strikeouts, averaging 10.89 strikeouts per nine innings. He was also fourth in the CACC with a 1.21 WHIP, collecting a 3.88 ERA on the year. He had a season-high 10 punchouts on April 5 at Holy Family.  

Dom Grady (Bensalem, Pa.) is a repeat First Team All-CACC reliever in 2024, anchoring the bullpen for the Wildcats in 19 appearances. He led the CACC with seven saves this season, going 2-4 overall in 19.1 innings pitched. He led the team with an 11.17 strikeout per nine-inning ratio. He had two saves on the team's trip to Durham, North Carolina, and picked up another save at Barry. He also had saves against American International, Chestnut Hill, Caldwell, and Goldey-Beacom.

Tyler Pirrung (Newark, Del.) improved upon his Second Team All-CACC performance as a freshman, earning First Team All-CACC as a sophomore in 2024. He played both corner infield positions, as well as time as the designated hitter to earn the Utility-Player award. He finished second on the team and seventh in the CACC with a .365 batting average, ranking fourth in the league with a .473 on-base percentage. He also ranked 16th in the CACC with a .519 slugging percentage, collecting nine doubles, two triples, and a homer in 38 hits. He finished second on the team with Grygo with 24 RBI, leading the team with 17 stolen bases while scoring a team second best 30 runs.

Goldey-Beacom's Braden Kolmansberger was named the CACC Player of the Year while Felician's Mike Caldron was named the CACC Pitcher of the Year. Jefferson's skipper Pat Horvath was voted the CACC Coach of the Year by the league's sports information directors while Bridgeport rounded out the major award by earning the Team Sportsmanship Award.
