Wildcats Defeat Goldey-Beacom, 2-1, and Secure No. 3 Seed in CACC Tournament

NEWARK, Del. - - A pair of first half goals carried the Wilmington University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over crosstown rival Goldey-Beacom in the regular season finale on Friday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

With the win, coupled with a loss by Georgian Court, the Wildcats (12-4-1, 8-2-1 CACC) earned the No. 3 seed in the upcoming CACC Tournament and will host No. 6 Dominican on Monday in the CACC Tournament First Round.

On Friday, the Wildcats scored a pair of goals less than three minutes apart early in the first half to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Jordan Siok dazzled through a crowd of Lightning players in the box for an unassisted goal 7:40 into the match and the Brianna Wons finished off a penalty kick just 10:01 into the match to make it 2-0. Evelyn Payne made a long run down the right side and was tripped in the box to award the chance from the spot.

After the halftime break, Goldey-Beacom cut the deficit in half in the 59th minute, but the Wildcats were able to hold off any scoring threats for the 2-1 victory.

The Wildcats outshot the Lightning, 14-12, while earning more corners as well, 4-3. Mio Nakajima made two saves in the first half while Arianna Myers made two stops in the second half for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats honored its 10 seniors prior to the game on Sunday. It was the final regular season game for Mio Nakajima, Gianna Bucs, Gabbi Cochiani, Julia Yuhase, Alicia Whyte, Alyssa Ruggeri, Alexa Pacheco, Jordan Siok, Brianna Wons, and Ellie Lawrence.

Chestnut Hill defeated Georgian Court, 2-0, on Friday night, helping the Wildcats jump the Lions into third place in the CACC standings. Monday's CACC Tournament First Round games are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. hosted by the higher seeds.
