Bridgeport Sweeps CACC Cross Divisional Match from Wilmington

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - - The Wilmington University volleyball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference cross divisional contest on the road at Bridgeport, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon inside the Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium.

Set scores for the match were 25-16, 25-8, and 25-16.

In the first set, the Wildcats went on a 6-0 run to get to within 19-15, but then the Purple Knights finished off the set with a 6-1 run, including the final four points to take the set, 25-16.

The Purple Knights came out in the second set and scored the first five points on its way to leads of 8-1 and 12-2. Bridgeport then went on another 6-0 run to take a 20-6 lead and scored five of the last six points to win the second set, 25-8.

Bridgeport raced out to a 6-1 lead in the third set as well and then scored another five straight to lead 11-4. The Wildcats went on a 4-1 run, including three straight with a kill from Alex Serna and a Haley Holland ace to get to within 20-14. The Purple Knights then score three straight to earn match point, 24-15. Eliza Schneider put down a kill, but the home team finished off the match with a hill, 25-16.

Eliza Schneider put down seven kills without committing an error, hitting .500 for the match. Karla Nunez-Rivera also had seven kills in the match. Alex Serna put down five kills with two blocks. Claudia Melendez had seven assists while Gabby Barth and Haley Holland led with four digs each.

The Wildcats return to action with a CACC South Division match at Chestnut Hill on Wednesday night. The first serve is set for 7:00 p.m. in Philadelphia.
