Wilmington Golf Captures STAC Spring Invitational Led by Andreas Lunding’s Medalist Honors

BERLIN, Md. - - In their final tune-up prior to the postseason, the Wilmington University golf team controlled the leaderboard at the St. Thomas Aquinas Spring Invitational from start to finish on Sunday, shooting a 296-288 to finish 15 strokes ahead of the competition at the Man O'War Golf Club.

Led by senior Andreas Lunding's medalist position, the Wildcats defeated hosts St. Thomas Aquinas (300-299, 599) by 15 strokes, finishing at eight-over par, 584, in the two rounds. The Spartans and Wildcats came into the tournament as one and two in the latest NCAA Division II East Regional Rankings, respectively.

Lunding was steady on Sunday, shooting a 72-72 to finish at 144, even par, for the tournament. He defeated teammates Sam Clark and Freddy Braun and St. Thomas Aquinas' Brendan Hunter who all finished with a score of 145 (+1).

Clark improved his day by five strokes in the second round, shooting a two-under 70 after firing a 75 in the opening round. Braun, playing as an individual, went 72-73 for his 145 (+1) score.

Troy Miller shot a steady 74-74 to finish in a tie for sixth overall, shooting a 148 (+4) on the day. Joey Russo improved in the second round by one stroke, shooting a 75-74 for a 149 (+5), placing eighth overall. Miguel Siercke rounded out the Wildcat scoring on Sunday with a ninth place finish, shooting a 78-72 for a 150 (+6).

Jordan Lamb, playing as an individual, improved by seventh spots on the leaderboard with a second round 75, shooting an 80-75, finishing in a tie for 15th overall.

It is the second tournament the Wildcats won this spring, also winning the Coach Carpenter Classic in late March.

The Wildcats can now focus their attention on the postseason, as they host the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament starting on Tuesday morning at Back Creek Golf Course in Middletown, Delaware. The Wildcats have won five straight CACC Tournament Championships, looking for an unprecedented sixth straight.
